Cordless charging no longer a pipe dream?
New technology would allow devices to be charged using Wi-Fi signals
As the market for the IoT grows, a key issue is how to power these devices as they become smaller and more numerous, since plugging them in is inconvenient and difficult at large scale.
In an effort to address that problem, a research team from the University of Washington is developing technology that would allow devices, including phones and other gadgets, to be charged using Wi-Fi signals that are typically used for communication purposes.
The potential for the technology, called “power over Wi-Fi” or “PoWiFi,” is illustrated in an article written by Nathan Eddy for InformationWeek.
